This hungry life

Tanya Donelly - Kundalini Slide
Tanya Donelly - River Girls
It is still my contention that Belly was one of the most underrated bands of the early 90's. In that same vein, Lovesongs for Underdogs remains a nostalgic favorite of mine when I want to revisit the heyday of alternative pop. So you can imagine my giddiness at the thought of a new Tanya Donelly record.

She sounds luminous here in a live setting. And while I know the rest of the songs are great, these 2 are so beautiful I can listen to nothing else.

Oh Beth, what can I do?

KISS - Beth (unplugged)
I sang this at Spotlight the other night and I don't think anyone recognized it. Of all the memorable Unplugged performances - Jodeci's "Lately," Nirvana's "The Man Who Sold The World," LL Cool J's deodorant-covered armpits - this one is my favorite. Vastly superior to the original, if only for replacing the schmaltzy string and horn section with Ace Frehley's gracefully kickass guitar solo. And the reunion of the 4 original band members transforms the song's tone from regretful to celebratory.

"Me so happy, me want to cry."
