Cha Cha Twist

The Detroit Cobras -- I Wanna Holler (But The Town's Too Small)
I once read a record review calling Kay Hanley's voice: "honey and blowtorch". But, as much as I love Kay, I think Rachel Nagy of The Cobras fits that brilliant description much better. Garage-rock R&B... rock n' soul... whatever people call it, it's damn FUN. And they do a nice cover of The Strokes' "Last Nite."

More cowbell!

The New Pornographers -- Twin Cinema
Title track from their newest release. The songs I've heard recently reveal a disarming lack of Neko Case. "I got a fever! And the only prescription... is more Neko!" All hail Christopher Walken.

A Girl Called Eddy -- The Long Goodbye
A Girl Called Eddy -- Golden
AKA Erin Moran. A voice that's all warm, velvety goodness.

The Weakerthans -- Plea From A Cat Named Virtue
The Weakerthans -- Psalm For The Elks Lodge Last Call
Probably as close to "modern rock/faux-punk" as I care to listen to. As you can tell, I'm running out of material.

Transcendence Part 9.
